But our letters weren't written to be read by the person or congregation in most cases. They were written to be carried by a messenger who would read the letter to the congregation following the instructions and guidance of the writer. In addition, many ancient letters were written by scribes because reading and writing were two different skills in the ancient world. So, Paul's letters may not actually have been written by his hand to begin with.

"Character cannot be purchased, bargained for, inherited, rented or imported from afar."

that one is my favorite. because it's so true.
its funny how fortune cookies can be silly/stupid but sometimes, when they catch you just right (and they aren't the amazingly dumb ones) they can give you something to think about.

but a fortune cookie telling me "you have the attitude of a winner" doesn't really do it for me... maybe its just me... ;)

I don't know that I would use 1 Corinthians 11 as support for this, but then again, I'm not sure that I really understand what that passage means, even after spending an entire class talking about it. And I'm not sure that the analogy has to be completely the same each time Paul uses it because a lot of his analogies seem pretty fluid throughout his writing. He employs them for unique purposes. Still, within the same letter I would want to assume that they are more consistent than divergent. All of that may not make much sense, but you may want to consider another way that the 1 Corinthians metaphor can function. One issue in that chapter is about giving glory in prophesy through head coverings. The issue is that the men are glorified through having their heads uncovered, and the women are glorified through wearing head coverings. The women should wear the head coverings because that brings them glory instead of bringing them shame when they are prophesying. You wouldn't want to have the people who are speaking for God be shamed.

...or your bubble might expand and burst...
Bethany's Brag Time:
I am Bethany's best mommy. Of course, I am so proud of her that I could just burst. I have watched her grow from a tiny "Rose bud" whose existence revolved around soaking up new knowledge like a sponge; into a beautiful "Rose" whose talents are too numerous to list. Much like her namesake (her great grandmother Rose Leonberger) Bethany's most valuable asset is teaching and nurturing others in a caring, christian manner. She is the very best firstborn a mother could ever wish for. God blessed me when he chose me to raise her.
